Sellers – Account Closure & Recovery of Credit Balances
In order for the transferring attorney to pass transfer at the deeds office a rates clearance needed to be obtained. This entailed making payment of not only the arrears or current balance but also Rates and services 3-4 months in advance. A portion of the advance payment together with any deposit which was being held by the City of Johannesburg must be refunded after the account has been finalised.

Buyers / New Owners
FTA can assist in ensuring that your new account with the City of Johannesburg is opened or has been opened correctly and that all charges currently linked on the billing system for the property are correctly transferred from the sellers account(s) to your new account.

Existing Account Holders
FTA can assist with a range of disputes and advice. We can review your accounts to identify potential savings. Data would need to be obtained and a report and quotation will be drafted to deal with any issues which are identified.

A fee of between R989 and R2495 will be quoted for the initial investigation depending on the complexity of the property and the number of accounts involved.

Conversion from postpaid electricity to prepaid electricity
Most residential properties will save considerable amounts by converting their electricity from conventional (postpaid) to prepaid electricity. In addition to the monthly savings you are also less likely to receive inaccurate accounts going forward and would need to pay less for clearance when selling the property.
